Since 2003 we teach the knitting style which is common in Central Russia and most post USSR countries.
First, we called it Continental knitting style. Then we realized that Europe (which was a "continent" for islanders in the past) knits differently.
This difference was noticed in hand positions or use of fingers or mount of knit and purl stitches or all above.

As you will see from videos in “Russian Knitting Technique” section, the knitter uses either wall (leg) of knit and purl stitches. Another important aspect of the technique is that the right needle is always positioned above the working yarn. As a result of it, knit and purl stitches are mounted on the needle in the opposite direction.

To make hands feel comfortable throughout the knitting time, Russians developed a grip of both left and right hand in which fingers are located very close to the tip of the needle. Also, this grip allows working with both hands at the same time distributing the work between both hands.
Using goat yarns developed "free" handle of the working yarn in which it is never fixed around any fingers. It provides a relaxed position of left hand at any time.

And, as we already mentioned, symmetrical mount of stitches on the needle allows a knitter to “feel” stitches with a touch of fingers without looking at them and establishing a knitting rhythm which is part of any knitting pattern.

We also cover crochet technique. Russians do not segregate knitting and crochet as two different crafts. They do not have words knitting and crocheting. Instead they say “threading with needles” and “threading with hook”.
You are welcome to watch our videos. Russian knitting technique suits both left-handed and right-handed crafters.
