CONTINENTAL TECHNIQUES Lesson 6
Working back and forth and forming a selvage stitch (fabric edge)
When you work back and forth it is important to know how to process the last stitch and bring the yarn at the begining of the row
because it shapes the edge of the garment
|
This edge looks like a knit stitch that is formed vertically.
Each stitch is spread over two full rows. It is very easy to count how many rows
have been processed by counting how many edge stitches are formed vertically.
This type of edge is the best for seaming.

|
This edge looks like a purl stitch that is formed vertically.
Each knot is spread over two full rows.
It is very easy to count how many rows have been processed by counting knots.
This type of edge is the best for forming planks, neck openings or finishing.
It also prevents fabric from appearing warped.

Knit the last stitch and keep yarn at the back of the work
It is very important to maintain consistency of processing the last stitch and position
of the yarn at the front or back of the work depending on whether second stitch should be processed as a knit stitch or as a purl stitch.
