Lesson 1: Crochet Hooks & Happy Crochet

Correct position of hook is 40% of your happy crochet
Proper type of hook is another 40% of your happy crochet
Technique is another 20% because crochet is extremely easy

Handle of the hook should be made of soft material because your right hand will be holding it without a break in the same position for long period of time. Your right hand is always in the same position especially base of the thumb and index fingers. It creates a tension in your muscles. If you feel cramps in your hand change your hook!

Avoid hook made of metal only. Perfect hook is the one that has a tip made of metal and a handle made of soft material preferably with plastic handle. Completely made of plastic hook is not bad choice as long as you are going to work with slippery fiber such as some of polyester or silk yarns. Inner area of the tip of the hook should be curved smoothly, like a little arch. Avoid hooks that have V-like curving. V-like curving tip prevents sliding stitches off the hook.

Good quality crochet hook Poor quality crochet hook What handle would you like to hold 99% of your time?
